Chaikin provides various types of Hot Lists as a source of potential investment ideas. Some are automatically calculated, and some are curated manually, as described below. The investor should always carefully apply their own selection criteria before deciding to take a position in any names.
Featured Bulls & Bears
Featured Bulls & Bears provide direct access to the highest-quality long and short ideas in the Chaikin system, identifying powerful patterns emphasized in the “Chaikin Investment Approach”.
These are illustrated in the Finding Longs and Shorts with Chaikin Analytics.
Classic Bulls & Bears
These answer the question “How do I find the best of the many Very Bullish and Very Bearish stocks in the system at any given time?”
Classic Bulls look for stocks which have had strong intermediate-term upside momentum which is likely to continue.
Inclusion Criteria
- Very Bullish Power Gauge Rating
- Strong Industry
- Strong intermediate-term performance
- Not yet overextended
- Strong Chaikin Money Flow
- Strong Relative Strength
- Persistency of Bullish Rating
Classic Bears look for stocks which have had intermediate-term downside momentum which is likely to continue.
Inclusion Criteria
- Very Bearish Power Gauge Rating
- Weak Industry
- Weak intermediate-term performance
- Not yet broken down too far
- Weak Chaikin Money Flow
- Weak Relative Strength
- Persistency of Bearish Rating
Certain status and quality criteria must be met, and a maximum of 10 stocks in any individual Industry Group is enforced.
These lists are generated at the beginning of each week, with stocks that no longer meet the criteria weeded out daily.
Bullish & Bearish Turnarounds
These are stocks which have had upside or downside momentum, with a sustainable reversal. They attempt to identify stocks (longs or shorts) earlier in their moves, where the Power Gauge may not yet indicate this. Of course, these should be approached with more consideration and with appropriate stop losses.
Bullish Turnarounds are stocks which have been have been out of favor, have made a base, and have given an indication of a sustainable upside reversal. These can be rated Bullish or Neutral, and there is no filter on Industry Group.
Inclusion Criteria
1 – Weak Intermediate-term performance with:
- Bearish Power Gauge Rating
- Weak Chaikin Money Flow
2 – Power Gauge Rating becomes Bullish or Neutral
- Stock crosses over its long-term trend OR
- Relative Strength turns positive OR rises
- Chaikin Money Flow becomes strong
- Stock not yet too far above long-term trend
Bearish Turnarounds are stocks which have had strong intermediate-term performance, which have begun to reverse to the downside.
These may be stocks which have broken down below their long-term trend, or which have retraced from a significant intermediate-term high. These must be Bearish stocks and may be in any Industry Group. While Bullish Turnarounds require more confirmation that a reversal is in progress, Bearish Turnarounds attempt to identify stocks earlier in a move, as downside reversals tend to occur more quickly and steeply than upside reversals.
Inclusion Criteria
1 – Strong intermediate-term performance with:
- Bullish Power Gauge Rating
- Strong Chaikin Money Flow
2 – Power Gauge Rating turns Bearish
- Stock crosses over its long-term trend OR
- Retraces from intermediate-term high
- Chaikin Money Flow becomes Weak
- Relative Strength turns negative or falls
- Chaikin Money Flow turns weak
- Stock not yet too far below long-term trend
Bullish & Bearish Turnarounds are meant to identify reversals as they are occurring, and are updated daily.
Certain status and quality criteria must be met.
